Abbas Giant,

Dorchester
(Hardy’s Casterbridge) –
County Town forever associated with Thomas Hardy.
You can find the excellent Dorset
County Museum and The
Military Museum here, as well as Max
Gate, the home Hardy
designed for himself.

Cottage,
Higher Brockhampton – Birthplace
and home of Thomas Hardy, the great Wessex

Maiden
Castle,
Dorchester –
enormous prehistoric hill fort, the finest
example in Europe.
Tolpuddle – TUC
memorial to the Tolpuddle Martyrs.
Weymouth – a
lively seaside resort popularised by George III
with a fine wide sandy beach and attractive
port area. Brewers Quay, a redeveloped Victorian
Brewery, contains many attractions and the Sea
Life Park is
also worth a visit. Weymouth is also the location
for the 2012 Summer Olympics Sailing events. (May
be a 35 - 40 minute journey depending on traffic.)

Cadbury
Castle,
South Cadbury – ancient
stronghold occupied 6000 years ago and the
reputed
site of Camelot, meeting place for King Arthur’s
Knights of the Round Table.
East
Somerset Railway,
Cranmore – steam
through the rolling Mendip countryside near Shepton
Mallet.

Air Arm Museum,
Yeovilton –
with many historic aircraft on display including
Concorde 002.
